Sentry
Solutions is a manufacturer of high-tech dry film
lubricants and residue inhibitors for firearms. Quite
literally, you may not need to clean or lubricate your gun
for the next 40,000 rounds with these products.
DESCRIPTION
Sentry
Solutions makes two product lines: high-performance dry
film lubricants (BP2000 and Smooth-Kote) and corrosion
inhibitors (Tuf-Cloth, Marine Tuf-Cloth and Tuf-Glide).
Additionally, they make a high-tech grease called Hi-Slip
Grease for very high-wear areas.
Smooth-Kote
is a fast-drying lubricant and bore treatment that
literally bonds to your gun's metal parts. To apply it,
you strip your gun, paint the lubricant onto all metal
parts (including the inside of the barrel), and let it dry
overnight, or accelerate the drying/curing process with a
hair dryer. Use BP2000 Powder over the Smooth-Kote to
further reduce friction and lengthen coating life; then,
reassemble the gun. All moving parts are now thoroughly
lubricated by Smooth-Kote's layered crystal structure, and
you'll notice a significant difference in trigger-pull
friction. But even more impressive is the fact that your
gun will hardly foul from shooting anymore.
TESTING
AND EVALUATION
After
I applied Smooth-Kote, I went to the range for a 200-round
session. Back home, I field-stripped my gun and it was as
clean as before I shot it. The manufacturer recommends
simply brushing the interior parts of the gun with a dry
brush after shooting.
How
long can this treatment last? Well, one police trainer put
more than 40,000 rounds through his Glock without cleaning
it, and the gun still worked perfectly.
Sentry
Solutions performed some tests of their own before some
very discriminating gun enthusiasts. They used a Glock 19
treated with Smooth-Kote, and a 23 treated with a couple
of drops of a traditional firearms lubricant (as per the
instructions). Both actions were opened and both guns
dropped into a box containing kitty litter and fine sand.
The results were astonishing: The Glock 19 treated with
Smooth-Kote was fully operational after simply knocking
the pistol against the operator's hand, while the
traditionally treated 23 was not able to function.
The
recommended procedure for treating your gun is to first
coat all the interior parts with Smooth-Kote; next, rub
BP-2000 onto all wearing surfaces. Then, put a
pinhead-size dot of High-Slip Grease on extremely
high-wear surface matings (such as the trigger bar and
connector juncture on a Glock), and then wipe down the
outside of the gun with Tuf-Cloth.
Tuf-Cloth
is a fabric impregnated with a corrosion inhibitor that
actually goes into the pores of the gun metal to protect
it from rust. Tuf-Glide is similar, only in a liquid form
for application to hard-to-reach surfaces.
Sentry
Solutions products are in use worldwide by elite military
units and police departments of all sizes. These guns are
now incredibly corrosion-resistant — something that's
even more imperative with seldom-used guns like shotguns
and carbines. Officers now spend less time (or no time)
cleaning their weapons after a range session, making the
training more enjoyable, and leaving more time for
shooting. I can honestly say that every gun I own in the
future will be treated with Sentry Solutions products.
